Azerbaijan is home to nearly 400 mud volcanoes, more than half the total throughout the world. Most of them are located on the vast territories between Shamakhi and Gobustan region. Here you can see volcanic fields in diameter from several tens of meters to kilometers. Mud cones and gryphons on these fields throw up mud, water, oil and gas. Mud volcanoes linked with hydrocarbons. They may be direct indicators of oil deposits at big depth, and provide necessary information for the exploration of underground sources of fuel.
